The Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys on Monday, October 26, in a Week 7 contest that features a host team missing its starting quarterback and several other key offensive players. The game is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET at Lincoln Financial Field.
Philadelphia has lost four straight games after opening the season with a 2-0 record. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is sidelined after blood clots were found in his calf and lungs. Wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks are also out. Running back Saquon Barkley, tight end Landon Dickerson, offensive lineman Jonathan Greenard, and defensive lineman Jalyx Hunt are listed as questionable to play.
The Cowboys arrive in Philadelphia following two consecutive losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Green Bay Packers. Dallas scored 29 total points against those two opponents, a drop from the 30-plus point totals it recorded in each of its previous three games. The offense has struggled to handle defensive pressure, with Dak Prescott completing 20 of 38 passes for 194 yards without a touchdown when facing extra rushers in those two contests.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has coached an Eagles defense that blitzes on 24.1 percent of opponent dropbacks, the fourth-lowest rate in the NFL. This contrasts with the 38.8 percent blitz rate Dallas faced in Weeks 5 and 6. The Eagles have allowed opponents to complete 60.4 percent of their passes for an average of 7.0 yards per attempt, but they have given up eight touchdown passes while picking up only three interceptions.
Dallas offensive line guard Tyler Smith has returned to the active roster. Javonte Williams has averaged 3.7 yards per carry this season, down from his 4.8 average last year. The Cowboys have allowed opponents to gain at least 165 rushing yards in five of their six games, conceding 4.7 yards per carry overall.
Backup quarterback Tanner McKee is expected to start for Philadelphia. He dropped back to pass 48 times in the Eagles' most recent game. If Barkley plays, he has averaged 5.5 yards per carry in the two games he has completed this season. McKee is 16 of 45 for 179 yards and no touchdowns in his career when under duress, with a 15.1 percent sack rate.
The Cowboys are favored by 4.5 points by DraftKings Sportsbook, with the over/under set at 43.5 points. The Eagles will rely on tight end Dallas Goedert, wide receivers Makai Lemon and Darius Cooper, and running back Dameon Pierce if Barkley sits. The Cowboys may use defensive back Joey Porter Jr. to cover Cooper or Lemon, with Cobie Durant set to return to the secondary.
