The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-19 on Sunday night in Seattle, snapping the Chiefs' perfect start to the 2026 season. The victory marked the first loss for Kansas City, which had won its previous six games. The Seahawks, who entered the contest under pressure, used a resilient defense and a strong first-half performance to secure the win.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the standout performer for Seattle. He finished with 129 receiving yards in the first half, which is the most in any half of his career and the most for a Seahawk since Tyler Lockett in 2020. For the season, Smith-Njigba now leads the NFL with 867 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns. According to ESPN Research, he is the first player in the Super Bowl era to reach at least 850 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns in his team's first seven games of a season.
Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards. He threw for 178 yards in the first half before an interception in the final seconds of the half gave away potential points. This was Darnold's eighth interception in his last five games. Despite the mistake, he did not get sacked, improving on the five sacks he allowed in each of the previous two weeks.
The Chiefs' offense struggled significantly against the Seahawks' defensive scheme. With Rashee Rice out due to a strained right hamstring and Tyquan Thornton on injured reserve, Kansas City's other receivers produced only six receptions for 39 yards. Kenneth Walker III, the former Super Bowl MVP, had a quiet game as well. The Seahawks, who often played two deep safeties, limited Walker to 36 rushing yards on 14 carries, preventing him from gaining 10 yards on any single run.
Patrick Mahomes threw for 165 yards. This was his lowest passing yardage total of the season. He has not thrown a touchdown in his last two games and has topped 250 passing yards only once in his last four appearances. His fantasy output dropped to a season-low six points, continuing a trend of diminished production in recent weeks.
Smith-Njigba credited the team's unity for the victory. He noted that the group fought with a special resiliency. "Our backs were against the wall. How we came out here as a brotherhood and fought .. the resiliency of our team is something special, and we're going to keep going," he said.
The Chiefs' general manager, Brett Veach, may look to the trade market for additional receiving options. The Nov. 10 trade deadline approaches, and the lack of production from the position group against Seattle may accelerate those plans. The current roster of available receivers includes Xavier Worthy, rookie Cyrus Allen, Justin Watson, Andrew Armstrong, and Jalen Royals.
The Seahawks will host the Chicago Bears on Nov. 2 at 8:15 p.m. ET. The Chiefs travel to Denver to face the Broncos at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday. Both teams will look to bounce back from this week's results as the season progresses.
