Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, has installed two swimming pools and multiple rollercoasters on its property. The additions mark a major shift from the venue’s original layout to a multi-purpose entertainment hub.
The track hosts the annual Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. Unlike Miami or Las Vegas, which use temporary street circuits, COTA is a permanent facility with wide run-off areas. The circuit was designed by motorcycle racer Kevin Schwanz, though Herman Tilke’s company built the surrounding infrastructure.
In 2012, the venue faced potential removal from the calendar due to low attendance. Today, it draws one of the largest crowds among the three US F1 events. The site has undergone extensive physical changes since that early period.
Grassy banks that once bordered the track are now occupied by hospitality structures. A cable car connects one of these buildings to the main paddock. The two new pools sit within this expanded hospitality zone.
Amusement rides, including rollercoasters, now line the venue's fringes. This development supports COTA’s strategy to operate as a theme park and concert venue alongside its racing functions. The site also hosts the World Endurance Championship and IMSA events in September.
The current race weekend represents the latest chapter in this expansion. The venue continues to host F1 while integrating these new recreational facilities for attendees.
