US stock futures remained mixed as Democrats secured majorities in both the House and the Senate during the 2026 midterm elections.

The electoral outcome reshapes the balance of power for the remainder of President Trump's term. Conservatives described the results as catastrophic after what some observers called an electoral wipeout. The victory for the Democratic Party was broad, spanning key battleground states and traditional Republican strongholds.

In Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed won a competitive Senate race, delivering a major setback for the Republican Party. In Texas, the state flipped to Democratic control for the first time in decades, a result that analysts framed as a political earthquake. This shift followed the collapse of the GOP candidate's campaign. In another state, a Democrat secured a victory that marked the first time the state had elected a member of that party in nearly 100 years.

Republican candidates also secured historic wins. Byron Donalds, backed by President Trump, is set to become Florida's first Black governor. Donalds stated that he is humbled by the result. In Maine, a fifth-generation logger defeated a Republican senator who had held the seat for 30 years. In Minnesota, voters reelected Ilhan Omar despite a series of reported scandals.

President Trump responded to the losses by pledging to veto bills he called insane from the new Democratic majority. He acknowledged that the war with Iran contributed to the GOP's midterm defeats, though he insisted the conflict was necessary and suggested he had no choice. Financial markets offered a measured initial verdict on the shift in congressional power.

Reaction from political figures and media hosts varied. The hosts of Pod Save America declared the midterms the end of the Trump era. Hillary Clinton warned that Democrats risk squandering their victory. Joe Rogan argued that woke ideology is replacing God on the left. Some allies urged others to lawyer up as the political fallout unfolded.

In other news, investigators examining a possible mid-air breakup found a piece of a jet's tail miles from the crash site. A country singer died at age 35 after doctors had given her three months to live. Popeyes revived a discontinued side that fans had missed for years.
