Jeffery Simmons made an immediate impact in his first game with the Chicago Bears on Monday night.
The defensive lineman recorded a sack and three pressures during a dominant defensive showing that carried Chicago to a 34-17 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Simmons, who joined Chicago last week in a trade for two first-round picks, finished with six tackles and a pass defensed. His presence allowed the Bears to limit Seattle to just one third-down conversion on 11 attempts and a total of 252 yards.
Caleb Williams managed the offense with high efficiency against the Seahawks, who have one of the league's stingiest defenses. Williams completed 71% of his passes for 247 yards while avoiding turnovers. He took only one sack and set up three short touchdown runs by D'Andre Swift. Head coach Ben Johnson called Williams' performance calm and collected despite a complex game plan. The Bears built a 20-9 lead in the third quarter before closing out the game.
The loss marked a turning point for Seattle, which dropped its third game in four weeks. The result ended a 30-game regular season and playoff streak of not losing by more than four points. That streak stood as the fourth longest for any team in the Super Bowl era. Coach Mike Macdonald admitted the team failed to execute key elements required to win.
Sam Darnold threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns for Seattle but threw a fourth-quarter interception that set up Swift's final touchdown. The Seahawks struggled on the ground, managing only 81 rushing yards despite the return of Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price from injuries. Guard Grey Zabel stated the team must improve the run game quickly to relieve pressure on the quarterback.
Williams wore all-black cleats without a visible logo during the game after reportedly receiving a $35,000 fine in the past two weeks for displaying an unauthorized logo. He said he wanted to keep media attention to a minimum during a busy week. The Bears will host Tampa Bay on Sunday, while Seattle will host Arizona.
