Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was removed from the game against the Buffalo Bills after suffering a right thumb injury on the opening drive. The two-time MVP was ruled out by coach Jesse Minter after the team initially listed him as questionable. Minter stated that Jackson requires surgery and will be placed on injured reserve.

The injury occurred on the first offensive play of the contest. Jackson dropped back to pass, and his throwing hand collided with Bills linebacker Greg Rousseau on the follow-through. Jackson jogged off the field holding his hand motionless before heading directly to the locker room. The Bills took a 7-0 lead on that opening possession.

Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley entered the game to replace Jackson. Huntley had started the previous three games for Baltimore while Jackson was recovering from a high ankle sprain. Midway through the second quarter, Huntley was tackled by Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver. The contact resulted in a toe injury, and Huntley was ruled out at halftime. The Ravens trailed 13-7 at that point.

Joe Fagnano, a 25-year-old undrafted free agent from UConn, entered the game for his first NFL snap. Fagnano had not previously played in an NFL regular season game. On his first possession, he completed two of four passes for 28 yards before a field goal attempt by Tyler Loop from 34 yards was missed.

Fagnano finished the game with 10 completed passes on 21 attempts for 91 yards and one interception. The Ravens lost the matchup 36-10. The team now holds a 4-3 record for the season. With both Jackson and Huntley out for the remainder of the week, the next scheduled offensive play for a Ravens quarterback will occur on Thursday night when Baltimore hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars.
