The Dallas City Council approved a $19.4 million contract on Sept. 9 to remove and replace 20 boarding bridges and their associated ground power units at Love Field. This specific upgrade is part of a much larger $2.54 billion rebuild known as the Love Field Expansion Airport Program.

The airport is preparing for several major operational changes in the coming years. Southwest Airlines will launch non-stop service from Dallas to Richmond International Airport on June 5, 2027. The carrier also announced a seasonal route to Bozeman, Montana, starting in the summer of 2027. Additionally, all Southwest flights will have access to Starlink WiFi beginning in the fall of 2027.

A new private jet facility is also on the horizon. NetJets plans to open a private terminal at Love Field in late 2028. The $35 million project will occupy more than 80,000 square feet. According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the space will include a new aircraft hangar labeled E, a private passenger terminal, retail shops, and office areas. The construction plan also covers renovations to parking, landscaping, and utilities.

Construction for the NetJets terminal is expected to begin in November 2026 and conclude in May 2028. The project will proceed in three phases. The first phase involves the demolition of Terminal J and six existing aircraft hangars located in buildings E, F, K, L, M, and N, per construction permits filed with the city of Dallas.

Ground transportation options are expanding as well. SIXT, a premium car rental company, opened a new branch at 5800 Maple Ave. in Dallas. Tom Kennedy, president of SIXT North America, stated that the company is growing its network to meet customers wherever they travel. The service offers premium, low-mileage vehicles in 130 branches across 28 states, allowing customers to book online and participate in a rewards program.

The broader airport transformation is currently in the design phase. Demolition for the larger program is scheduled to begin toward the end of 2027. The city aims to complete the entire $2.54 billion construction project by 2032.
