The University Interscholastic League area round of the volleyball playoffs concluded late last week in the Denton region. Four local teams won their first-round matches to earn a chance to compete in the area playoffs.
Results from the previous round show that Sanger defeated Godley by a score of 3-0 in 4A Division I. In the same division, Aubrey, with a record of 40-6, scheduled a 6:30 p.m. Tuesday match against Alvarado at Fort Worth Castleberry High. In 5A Division II, Argyle, leading the region with a 36-5 record, played Mansfield Timberview at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Worth Boswell High.
In 4A Division II, Ponder secured a 3-0 victory over Hillsboro on Monday. The match took place at North Crowley High. The Lady Lions won the final set 25-17 to complete the win. This result advances Ponder to its fourth consecutive regional semifinal.
The program has established a consistent presence in late playoff rounds in recent years. Ponder reached its first regional final in 2023. The team advanced to the state semifinals in 2024 and returned to the penultimate round of the playoffs last year.
Ponder, now at 25-22, will face the winner of Tuesday’s match between Farmersville and Longview Spring Hill. Farmersville enters that contest with a 33-11 record, while Longview Spring Hill stands at 26-17. The regional semifinal is scheduled for later this week, with specific details to be determined.
