Jason Robertson recorded the third-fastest natural hat trick in Dallas Stars history to secure a 6-5 win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night. The winger scored his sixth, seventh, and eighth goals of the season in a span of 5 minutes and 20 seconds early in the second period.

The sequence began just 23 seconds into the middle frame. Robertson skated uncontested into the left faceoff circle during a power play, beating goaltender Logan Thompson to the glove side for the first of his three. For his second goal, he received a drop pass from Arttu Hyry, cut back to avoid a body check from Jakob Chychrun along the right boards, and fired the puck between Thompson and the far post.

His third goal, a snap shot from the point, made the score 4-0 with 14:17 remaining in the period. The shot found a slot through traffic, extending Dallas' lead before the intermission.

Washington fought back against the penalty kill, scoring their fourth and fifth goals of the season on that unit to close the gap to 5-3 by the end of the second. Justin Sourdif cut the deficit to 6-4 with 7:05 left in the third period. Ryan Leonard scored on a six-on-five power play with 1:02 remaining to make it 6-5, marking the Capitals' second consecutive home loss.

Other goals for Dallas came from Joel Kirvanta, who scored midway through the first period, and Mikko Rantanen in the second. Rantanen's goal tied Robertson for the team lead in scoring. Roope Hintz added a goal and an assist. Jake Oettinger stopped 20 shots in the win, which gave Dallas points in a fifth straight road game.

For Washington, Jordan Kyrou tallied a goal and two assists. Boone Jenner and Dylan Strome also contributed. Strome recorded his 10th and 11th assists of the season, leading the team in that category.

The Stars will visit Columbus on Thursday night. The Capitals remain in Washington to complete a three-game homestand against Florida on Saturday.
