The UTSA Roadrunners faced a binary outcome on Tuesday night at Park West Athletics Complex: win and advance, or lose and go home. A 1-0 victory over Florida Atlantic University resolved that tension, securing the team's slot in the American Conference Tournament after a regular season that left them with an 8-5-5 record.

The decisive moment arrived in the 36th minute when sophomore midfielder Olivia Christodoulides scored her first collegiate goal. Assisted by Sofia Peters, who launched a long pass downfield, Christodoulides broke past the Owls' defense to put the ball in the net. The goal gave UTSA a lead that held through halftime and into a second half dominated by Florida Atlantic's offensive pressure.

The victory capped a difficult week for the Roadrunners, who had suffered a 2-1 loss to North Texas on Friday. Despite returning from that defeat with a full roster of players managing injuries, UTSA controlled possession in the first half. Florida Atlantic struggled to find rhythm early, registering only two shots before the break. The dynamic shifted after halftime, as the Owls attempted 11 shots in an effort to equalize. UTSA's defense absorbed the pressure, ending the match with 11 shots of their own against Florida Atlantic's 13.

Senior goalkeeper Kessler anchored the defensive effort, recording four saves to claim her 20th career shutout and 30th career victory. It was her final home appearance of the season. "To come out here, not only win, but get the shutout as well. It’s unimaginable," Kessler said. "The feeling is beyond words."

For Christodoulides, the goal carried personal weight given her unconventional path to the team. She tore her ACL in her senior year of high school and arrived at UTSA as a walk-on after receiving no prior collegiate offers. Coach Derek Pittman recruited her directly. "Honestly, I don’t even remember what I felt like," Christodoulides said of the moment. "I was just so happy to be able to help contribute to my team in a positive way."

Pittman acknowledged the high stakes of the matchup, describing it as a scenario where the team had nothing left to lose. "It speaks to the character of who our players are that they’re never going to quit," he said. "They’re never going to back down."

The Roadrunners finish the regular season as the fifth seed. They will travel to Lakewood Ranch, Florida, to face fourth-seeded Rice University on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m. in the American Conference Tournament, where they will attempt to defend their conference title from the previous year.
