USC fans face a difficult weekend as their team prepares to host a top-ranked opponent, with the head coach publicly reaffirming his commitment to the program. Lincoln Riley, who is in his fifth year as the Trojans' head coach, stated that he remains fully dedicated to the team despite growing scrutiny over his long-term future.

The team currently holds a 6-2 record, a mark that has left College Football Playoff aspirations in doubt. The roster suffered a recent defeat to Wisconsin, a team that was unranked at the time, and previously lost to an Oregon squad that has struggled this season. The upcoming match against Ohio State presents a high-stakes challenge, as the visitors are currently ranked second in the nation. A loss to a backup quarterback in Big Ten play would further complicate Riley's standing.

Riley addressed the speculation about his departure by noting that three other Power Four coaching positions are already vacant, with more expected to open in the coming month. He emphasized that he left a stable position at Oklahoma to take the USC job, a decision he does not regret. "I love it here," Riley said. "I've told you guys many times. There's not many people in college football history who gave up what I gave up to come here. I don't care if it's 15 years down the line. That should never be taken lightly, and it's not taken lightly by me. I came here because this is where I wanted to be. I came here because I believe in this place, and none of that has changed whatsoever."

At Oklahoma, Riley enjoyed regular access to the playoff and competed with the sport's elite programs. His current tenure at USC has not replicated those early results. While he won 11 games in his first season, the team has not reached double-digit victories since. The program has also not come close to the playoff field, and the team has no ranked wins this season. Riley acknowledged the pressure of coaching a historic program, recalling that he expected to be fired after his first loss at Oklahoma. He stated, "I learned a lesson pretty quick that the highs and lows of this thing, if you let those get to you, then you're not the right person for the job."

Riley also addressed his relationship with athletic director Jennifer Cohen, who did not hire him for the position. He described their working relationship as "fantastic" and credited her with strong support for the football program. "She's a tremendous AD," Riley said. "Even though she's not the AD I came here with, and I'm not the coach she hired, we have a fantastic relationship. She's been a huge part of all the progress we've made and has been incredibly supportive."

The result of the Ohio State game will likely determine the tone of Riley's next news conference. A victory over the second-ranked Buckeyes would expand USC's path to the playoff and provide a signature win. A loss would likely increase the volume of questions regarding his tenure.
