The rain has stopped, but the chill has not.
Kansas City residents woke to a gray sky and temperatures near 50 degrees on Wednesday. A thick layer of clouds covers the metro area, bringing a damp start to the day. Light drizzle is possible in the early hours before the sun begins to break through. Winds from the west are blowing at 10 mph with gusts near 20 mph, making the air feel colder than the thermometer reads.
The shift to cooler weather began as a front moved through the region. After a warm period, the air mass changed, lowering the maximum temperatures for the rest of the week. Clouds are expected to clear from the southwest toward the northeast, allowing sunshine to reach most of the metro by late Wednesday afternoon. Northern Missouri may remain cloudy for a longer period.
Thursday will start in the mid-40s with clouds. A front passing through the area offers a low chance of a light shower in the morning. Temperatures will rise to the mid-50s as the sky clears in the afternoon. Friday brings partly cloudy skies with highs near 50 degrees.
The cold air mass will persist through the weekend. Saturday mornings will see lows drop into the mid-30s, with potential for patchy frost in outlying areas. The day will be sunny with highs in the low 50s. Sunday will warm to the low to mid 60s with plenty of sunshine, a favorable setup for game day activities.
A warming trend is scheduled to arrive early next week. Dry conditions are forecast for Monday and Tuesday, with highs reaching the mid to upper 60s.
