A new 'Harry Potter' series will run for at least seven seasons, according to production plans revealed Thursday. The show is set to premiere on December 25, 2026, on HBO. Each season will adapt one of J.K. Rowling’s seven books. This structure contrasts with the original film series, which expanded the seven-book narrative into eight films by splitting the final volume into two parts.
The announcement followed the release of a new promotional poster that quickly spread across social media platforms. Viewers on X reacted to the image, joining a wave of engagement that has built since the project was first announced. The visual materials have intensified anticipation among long-time fans of the novels and the original movies.
The casting list features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Veteran actor John Lithgow has been selected to play Albus Dumbledore. Janet McTeer will portray Minerva McGonagall, while Paapa Essiedu takes the role of Severus Snape. Nick Frost is cast as Rubeus Hagrid.
The series is scheduled to launch on Christmas Day. The first episode will correspond to the first book in Rowling’s series. Subsequent seasons will follow the order of the published novels.
