HBO finalizes lead parents for December 25 Harry Potter launch

HBO has secured final casting for the parental figures in its upcoming Harry Potter adaptation.

Jasper Talbot and Hannah Chinn will portray James and Lily Potter in the series. The couple’s confrontation with the Dark Lord serves as the inciting incident for the narrative arc established in the original novels. This addition completes the core family unit for the first season.

Harry Gilby also joins the production as Charlie Weasley. He plays the second-eldest son of Arthur and Molly Weasley, roles currently held by Rafe Spall and Katherine Parkinson. The announcement expands the ensemble beyond the central trio of Hogwarts students.

The series premieres on December 25. Dominic McLaughlin leads the cast as Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Veteran actors John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, and Paapa Essiedu round out the faculty roster as Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Snape. Nick Frost appears as Hagrid.

Supporting roles are filled by a mix of established and emerging talent. Rory Wilmot plays Neville Longbottom, while Lox Pratt takes on Draco Malfoy. The Dursley household is portrayed by Daniel Rigby and Bel Powley. Other cast members include Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick, and Beertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.

Production has also confirmed additions for the second season, titled Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Kit Harington will play Gilderoy Lockhart, while Bonnie Hill joins as Ginny Weasley. Lenny Rush is cast as Dobby, and Billy Barratt takes the role of Tom Riddle. Molly Hewitt-Richards and Jasper Ambrose will appear as Moaning Myrtle and Colin Creevey.

Francesca Gardiner writes and executive produces the project. Mark Mylod serves as executive producer and director for multiple episodes. The series is produced by HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. Additional executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, David Heyman, Laura Neal, and Jon Brown.
