A fire inside a restaurant at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston triggered a partial evacuation of Terminal C on Tuesday, resulting in visible smoke and operational changes for travelers.
Airport authorities cleared the north side of the terminal while firefighters extinguished the flames. Officials moved passengers from the affected area as a precaution. No injuries were reported in the incident.
United Airlines maintained its full flight schedule for Wednesday morning, with no delays recorded in the early hours. However, the carrier adjusted its gate assignments to accommodate the disruption. Operations are currently split among Terminal C South, Terminal D, and Terminal E.
Airport officials advised passengers to verify their specific terminal and gate assignments before departing for the airport, even when flights are on time. The exact number of affected gates and the status of the entire terminal remain unconfirmed as of Wednesday.
Fire investigators are examining the cause of the blaze in the Terminal C restaurant. The airport also logged dozens of flight delays and a small number of cancellations, though the connection between those disruptions and the fire has not been established.
