Jacob Luna, 31, was hospitalized in critical condition on Sunday night after a gunfight with four San Antonio police officers. The confrontation ended when his vehicle crashed into a tree on Horal Drive.
Undercover officers were conducting surveillance near the 1700 block of Horal Drive around 6:15 p.m. They were tracking a man with an active arrest warrant for a narcotics offense. Police reported that Luna noticed the agents and showed a handgun through his car window. He began firing at the officers, who returned fire.
Luna fled the scene in his vehicle. The car was involved in multiple collisions before striking a tree. He exited the vehicle and ran on foot but collapsed shortly after. Officers placed him in custody and confirmed he had sustained multiple bullet wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where doctors expect him to survive.
None of the four officers involved were injured. They have between eight and 10 years of service each. The department placed all four officers on administrative duty pending further review. Luna now faces two charges: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
