The National Weather Service projects that isolated areas in west south-central Texas could receive up to six inches of rain between Thursday and Friday. Meteorologists warn that these accumulations may lead to localized flooding in affected zones.
The forecast identifies a specific corridor as the primary target for the precipitation. This area extends across the southern Edwards Plateau and follows the Rio Grande. Within this zone, residents can generally expect two to four inches of rain, with the six-inch figure applying to isolated pockets.
Rainfall totals will decrease as one moves east. The Hill Country and surrounding regions are forecast to receive between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of precipitation. East of Interstate 35, amounts will drop sharply as the weather system reaches the coastal plains.
The cloud cover and rain will also cool the region. High temperatures are expected to stay in the 70s Fahrenheit for most areas. However, parts of the Hill Country and the southern Edwards Plateau may only reach the 60s.
The weather pattern will remain active following Friday. The Service indicates that a cold front could move through the region early next week. This development would introduce a new round of rain chances for the area.
