Hasan Piker’s legal team is threatening further legal action against conservative pundits who have defamed him. After filing a $72.5 million defamation lawsuit against CNN contributor Scott Jennings last week, the progressive political Twitch streamer Hasan Piker’s legal team is promising more legal action against conservative pundits they feel have defamed their client. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Piker’s attorney and defamation specialist Daniel Watkins said there is a “reckoning coming.” “There are other people and other entities that will likely receive outreach from my law firm in the coming days,” Watkins said.
The more aggressive legal posture from Piker’s camp stands in marked contrast to his previous tendency to let the more controversial, and often baseless, accusations against him slide. Since he became a national and international political figure, he has been namechecked by both Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu in 2026, Piker has faced a torrent of claims against him, including animal abuse, racism and misogyny, and has become something of a lightning rod for Republican and centrist Democratic attacks.
That all changed on Aug. 11, when Jennings, appearing on his Salem Media podcast, presented a spliced video montage alleging that Piker advocated for lynchings. Jennings used the completely out-of-context segment to urge Michigan voters to reject Senatorial candidate Abdul El-Sayed over his ties to the streamer.
Watkins issued a formal retraction demand to Salem Media’s chief legal counsel, Christopher Henderson, in late August. When that yielded no response, Piker filed suit, demanding $27.5 million in compensatory damages and $45 million in punitive damages. “I have been very deliberately anti-litigation for a very long time,” Piker told Vanity Fair. “But something shifted that’s been bubbling up where… people like Scott Jennings, and there are others as well, started trafficking in outright lies, defamation, and slander.”
Watkins stressed the severe impact of the clips on Piker’s career, calling the targeted misattributions “disgusting and vile and dangerous” for a public figure built on advocacy for marginalized groups. For Piker, the legal action stems from personal fallout, including reputational damage and safety concerns after an individual stalked him at a public event. “When is the last time you experienced eight consistent months of [mainstream media] having one primary villain?” Piker asked. “It’s not fun at all. It sucks.”
