Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas told listeners on his podcast that Republicans face a potential total defeat in the upcoming midterm elections. Speaking on an episode released Friday, Cruz said he is "deeply, deeply worried" about the party's standing. He warned that if the election were held today based on early votes cast so far, Democrats would win majorities in both the House and Senate.

Cruz described the projected outcome as a "bloodbath" rather than a close contest. He noted that Democrats are turning out in record numbers for a midterm election, matching or surpassing Republican early voting in key states. Polls and experts currently predict a Democratic sweep of both chambers. Cruz stated, "We would lose both the House and the Senate. It would not be close."

The Texas Senate race is the central concern for Cruz, who emphasized that his home state is "excruciatingly close." He warned that Republicans could lose every single statewide race in Texas, including the governor's race and the Senate seat. Current polling shows Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico leading GOP opponent Ken Paxton. Talarico also trails behind Democratic gubernatorial challenger Gina Hinojosa, who is closely matching Gov. Greg Abbott. Paxton received backing from President Donald Trump despite past scandals, while Abbott remains the incumbent.

Cruz addressed skepticism regarding polling accuracy. He acknowledged a leftward bias in the data but argued the numbers are not fake based on his experience running campaigns. "The Democrats are massively out-turning out the Republicans," Cruz said, adding that the party must fix the turnout gap. He called this the most important midterm of his lifetime.

Other prominent figures aligned with the current administration have echoed similar urgency. Elon Musk, who led the Department of Government Efficiency, has warned that a Democratic victory would signal the end of American democracy. Musk, whose companies receive billions in federal contracts, has faced accusations of using his agency to gut regulatory bodies investigating his businesses.

Cruz has maintained a strong public relationship with Trump since their 2016 rivalry. He has supported the president's Iran war stance and publicly praised Trump's decisiveness. Trump recently suggested Cruz would be an ideal candidate for the Supreme Court. The president told reporters and rallygoers that Cruz would make a good justice because both Democrats and Republicans "can't stand him" as a senator.
