A suspected data breach at the Department of Homeland Security has exposed the personal details of approximately 40,000 employees and contractors.

The leaked records contain names, job titles, and work locations for these individuals. In many cases, the file also lists direct phone numbers and email addresses. About 10,000 of the affected workers are personnel from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The data also includes records for more than 20,000 employees of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a group that includes Border Patrol agents.

Multiple sources familiar with the incident described the situation as catastrophic. Fox News independently verified that the leaked records name several undercover ICE agents working in various parts of the country. A hacking group calling itself the Department of Peace claimed responsibility for the breach. In a statement, the group said DHS employees already hold their information, so it is fair for the hackers to possess the agency's data. The group added that it hoped the data would help limit further harm by the DHS.

Distributed Denial of Secrets, a data leak website, published the information on Wednesday. Emma Best, a co-founder of the site, said in a statement that a search tool has been built for the public to access the data. Best stated that the tool would replace anonymity with accountability.

A DHS spokesperson told Fox News that the department is aware of the potential breach and is actively working to address the situation swiftly and effectively. The department emphasized that it takes security threats against its employees and officers seriously. It stated it would update the public when more information becomes available.

This incident follows a major breach of a Pentagon personnel database last month. That event exposed sensitive information for more than 2.76 million living U.S. military and civilian personnel, along with 294,000 deceased individuals. Pentagon officials confirmed that unauthorized users accessed unencrypted files containing Social Security numbers and employment information between October 2025 and July 2026.

The current leak adds to growing concerns over the security of government personnel records. The DHS continues to review the scope of the breach while the hacking group maintains its claim of responsibility.
