At least eight people, including one child, died in separate Israeli attacks in Gaza on Saturday, hospital officials and the local interior ministry reported. The strikes occurred one year after the current ceasefire took effect.

In the Al-Rimal district of Gaza City, a missile struck a group of civilians standing next to Cairo School. Hospital staff in the northern city confirmed that three people were killed in the blast. Among the dead was a four-year-old boy. Ali Oweis, a relative of the victims, told the AFP news agency that his son and grandchild were sitting in their tent when the projectile hit. "There is no ceasefire; the war is ongoing, don't you see?" Oweis said.

Video footage taken outside Shifa Hospital showed men gathering to pray beside two body bags. The small body of the child lay nearby, wrapped in a white towel.

In the southern city of Khan Younis, a drone attack killed five police officers. The Hamas-run ministry of interior stated the officers were performing routine duties in the Al-Mawasi area when they were hit. The five men were between the ages of 23 and 53. At Nasser Hospital, women gathered around body bags laid out on the floor. The interior ministry labeled the incident a "horrific massacre."

The Israeli military announced it had executed two attacks. Officials described the targets as military operatives but did not release evidence or additional details. Since the ceasefire began in October of last year, 1,580 people have been killed, according to Gaza's health ministry. The United Nations considers these figures reliable.

The truce was part of an agreement that saw the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners and the return of 48 hostages. The war was triggered by a Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people in Israel and resulted in the capture of 251 hostages. Since that date, 74,594 people have died in Gaza, the health ministry said.

A peace plan brokered by the Trump administration has stalled. Israeli air strikes have continued almost daily since the initial agreement was signed.
